I was born in L.A. County and graduated from California High School in Whittier, California in 1972.  I studied Business Administration at San Diego State University and then transferred to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo where I obtained a B.S. degree in Ornamental Horticulture with a concentration in Landscape Design, Landscape Contracting and Entomology.  During this time, I lived in Morro Bay on the Coast of Central California.

Soon after graduating, I obtained my Pest Control Advisors (PCA) license through the State of California which allowed me to make recommendations regarding Integrated Pest Management.  Soon after that I obtained my Pest Control Operator’s license.  I emphasized the use of crop science and rotation to minimize the use of chemicals, which avoids resistance problems and injury to beneficial insects.

From 1980 to 2015, I worked as a landscape contractor covering Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas and Nevada.  During this time I helped develop, grow, design and implement a 36-hole golf course by Ted Robinson, supplied plant material to PGA West in Palm Springs, California, and did work in Florida.  I did high-end profile houses in California, including Harold Ramis and consulting on Cher’s Moroccan landscape in Malibu.  During the boom of the 1980’s, my company provided the International Transportation of Plant Material to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Spain for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

I was in the nursery business for a period of time before moving here to Tucson in 1997, to renovate two schools for T.U.S.D. in a Superintendent Position.  I then focused on the golf course circuit briefly before starting up my own landscape business, which I ran and operated until 2015.

After closing my company, I obtained a degree in Animal Science and became a Certified Veterinary/Pet Care Assistant. I worked in the Animal ER for a year, but the sadness I experienced with animals there is not what I wanted.  Instead, I joined the Volunteer Team at the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum to assist with the Interpretive Animal Collection where I get to handle over 70 animals varying from reptiles to raptors.

THE RETURN (as Norman Desmond would say) started in Fall of 2019 when my friends kept asking me to return and help them out with their landscape needs.  I did.

Now returning to my original field of Ornamental Horticulture as Jeffrey the Landscape Fluffer with an emphasis in landscape design and installation,  I am looking to help make adjustments to peoples’ landscapes, or as I call “Fluffing”–to make the necessary improvements to liven up and beautify your surroundings while providing serenity and some utility. By utilizing the four elements in a Feng Shui style approach for the landscape, the space becomes enhanced and more aesthetically-pleasing.  I believe in color for all seasons and emphasize a low-maintenance, hardy and xerophytic plant pallet to achieve these goals. I also do consulting for hire and landscape maintenance upon request.

If you have any questions, concerns, hopes or desires regarding your landscaping, it may be time for you to get “fluffed.”
